Frenchtown
The bucolic beauty of this town is so serene, you might think you’ve been transported to the British countryside. Rolling green fields make their way down to lush riverbanks, all perfect for exploring on hikes or bike rides.
The beginning of the Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park is here. The towpath meanders south from Frenchtown for a bit before it hits the canal itself. From here, bicyclists can pedal along the Delaware River all the way to Trenton.
Or, follow the Raritan River until it hits New Brunswick. If you didn’t bring your own bike, Cycle Corner (52 Bridge St.) is a top spot in the region for bike rentals.
Frenchtown is also a great strolling and shopping town, with numerous small charming boutiques. The town’s three big festivals – Wine and Art in May, Bastille Day in July and RiverFest in September – are a cool way to check out all the local offerings.
For fine accommodations check out the National Hotel.The National is a hotel/B&B, a restaurant with bar and also features a cellar pub.

Nature Lovers:
Gentle tubing and rafting on the Delaware River from May to September is the specialty of Delaware River Tubing, 2998 Daniel Bray Hwy., Rt. 29), a longstanding and much-beloved regional outfitter.
The trip includes a stop mid-river, in the water, for a free barbecue provided by The Famous River Hot Dog Man.
