Coastal Living magazine’s “Best Beach in America” is found on the Southern Shore, along with the state’s only drive-in theater.

With fourteen beaches of which several are free, New Jersey’s Southern Shore has a beach for everyone. Ocean City was named Coastal Living’s Best Beach in America, peaceful Cape May oozes Victorian charm and The Wildwoods promises year-round fun with a full calendar of events. The region is home to seven free beaches, where activities like parasailing, surfing and the calmer mini-golf are popular.

Corson’s Inlet State Park in Strathmere offers opportunities to view local wildlife and Soldiers Monument in Cape May honors those who served in World War I. The kids will love Cape May County Park & Zoo, the state’s largest zoo, or burning off energy at Cumberland Mall’s play area while mom shops everything from designer clothes to jewelry. Spas, breweries and vineyards throughout the region round out the fun.

Annual events here feature the New Jersey BBQ Championship & Blues Festival, held in North Wildwood in July and the Seafood Festival, held in Avalon in October.
