Essex County Codey Arena at South Mountain Recreation Complex

Named for former New Jersey Governor Richard Codey, this county-owned arena features not one but two NHL-sized skating rinks. Glide in for public sessions – advance reservations are not required. You can also take advantage of lessons and host birthday parties here.
Ice House Skating Rink
111 Midtown Bridge Approach, Hackensack | Gateway Region
Only a house could hold all of this ice. We’re talking about four NHL-sized rinks! Get yourself to the ticket window to purchase a public session wristband, lace up your skates and pop on your helmet for a cool time twirling around the rink.
Ice Vault Arena
10 Nevins Road, Wayne | Gateway Region
Home to multiple high school and youth leagues, this arena is also open for public skate sessions (duration varies by day – check the schedule for details). Your admission price even includes skate rentals.
MacKay Ice Rink
130 W Englewood Avenue, Englewood | Gateway Region
An easy-to-use, mobile-friendly website allows you to book your recreational skate or stick time session or register for lessons or skate sharpening by staff members. The season runs from October to April, so you won’t be left out in the cold when you want to get your skate on.
Mennen Sports Arena
161 E. Hanover Avenue, Morris Township | Skylands Region
This arena offers public sessions, a pro shop and eatery under one roof. No wonder 1 million visit each year! If you want to learn to skate, this facility has also been recognized amongst the top ten programs in the nation and boasts three former Olympians on their coaching staff.
Montclair State University Ice Arena
1 Arena Drive, Little Falls | Gateway Region
Whether you want to learn to spin or score, this arena has your program. Instructors are members of the ISI, US Figure Skating or the Professional Skaters Association as well as Rangers staff for the youngest aspiring hockey players. The arena also offers public skate sessions – including Friday nights with a DJ.
Newport Skates
95 River Drive South, Jersey City | Gateway Region
NYC has its overcrowded Rockefeller Center skating. Jersey City boasts its own outdoor rink with Newport Skates at The River Market. From November to March (weather permitting), this ice is for everyone, and it includes public sessions, lessons, skate rentals, and skate aids.
The Rink at American Dream

Between Big Snow and The Rink, we count American Dream as an indoor winter wonderland. The entire family is invited to “have an ice day” at sessions for open skating, figure skating, hockey tournaments and private events.
Secaucus Ice Rink

For wallet-and-family-friendly wintery fun, head to Secaucus Ice Rink! Admission is just $3, and skate rentals are only $2. With sessions held Thursdays through Sundays, you’re sure to find the perfect slot to get out on the ice.
Skylands Ice World

An arena with solid hockey cred, Skylands Ice World hosts a Junior Rangers Learn to Play program as well as the Skylands Kings club team. Recreational skaters can come to the Friday Night Ice Jam or public sessions and wannabe Olympians can take private figure skating lessons.

While summer brings boating and splashy fun to the park, the colder months are all about ice skating. The popular seasonal rink, first introduced in 1961, was joined by a renovated skate building in 2019. Come for the public sessions and stay for the local high school hockey games.

Wow! Those Rangers really get around with another Learn to Play program here. Home to the Mercer Chiefs team, this facility is also where homeschoolers and preschoolers can take lessons. If you just want to practice skating backward, you can come for a public session.
Mercer County Skating Rink

Enjoy next-level outdoor skating in the heart of Mercer County. This facility first opened its doors in 1975, and skaters can enjoy an open-air 85 x 200-foot rink protected from the elements for public sessions, stick time and lessons.

Fun for families and friends, Old Bridge Ice Arena boasts a welcoming staff, skate rentals and even funnel cakes to fuel your loops around the ice. The perfect balance of sugar and skating!
Pro Skate Ice Arena

This is where The Mercer Chiefs Tier II and Princeton Tiger Lilies shoot and score like champs. You’ll score too with Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey instructional programs, plus sessions for public skating, freestyle and drop-in hockey.
Roosevelt Park Family Skating Rink
151 Parsonage Road, Edison
Pack away your roller skates because this rink is now in ice skating season. Show off your skills at sessions scheduled for Wednesdays through Sundays (plus some holidays!). When your ankles can’t take it anymore, you can hit the Skate Zone Café for hot chocolate and fun foods.
Woodbridge Community Center Ice Skating Rink

It’s non-stop ice skating here with general sessions seven days a week, all year round. You can also coast into skating and hockey lessons, youth and adult leagues, birthday parties and special events.

Atlantic City Skate Zone

Everybody, out of the water (and into the bleachers) for the Atlantic City Sharks youth hockey club and local high school games. Or lace up and take to the NHL-sized ice sheet yourself during a public session and show fellow skaters what you can do.

OK hockey fans, let’s get Gritty! For kids who want to someday wear an NHL jersey with their own name on it, this rink hosts a Flyers Rookie Program. If you’re more into recreational or figure skating, no worries. The facility offers open and freestyle sessions for you too.
Hollydell Ice Arena

The public is welcome to open skate, freestyle and hockey sessions at this all-in-one arena. There’s even a full-service bar and grill with views of two rinks, inviting you in from the cold. This is also where the Belles, Hurricanes, Venom and Havoc hockey teams skate their way to victory.

How many igloos can say they’re home to Jaguars? Well, this one can because that’s the name of its club team! But hockey isn’t the only game here. The rink also offers public and figure skating sessions and lessons.

It’s more big cats on the prowl in South Jersey ice rinks. The Wildcats pounce on the puck at the Jersey Shore Arena. It’s also where families bond on blades during public skate sessions and kiddos and adults learn to skate and play hockey.
Middletown Sports Complex

Friday nights are right for making smooth moves during DJ Skate sessions at Middletown Sports Complex. You can also learn to skate and play hockey from pro instructors. And, when the gloves are off, you can even dance or work on your yoga practice here.
Pennsauken Skate Zone

Here’s another South Jersey location that offers a Flyers Rookie Program for kids ages 5-9 to learn to play hockey from certified coaches. Themed public skate sessions and a Snack Zone serving comfort foods also put the spin on fun with family and friends.
Red Bank Armory Ice Complex

From the cavalry to carving up the ice, this facility was an Armory until 1988, when it began its transformation into a community complex for people of all ages to ice skate recreationally and learn to play hockey. It also stands proudly as the home arena for the Red Bank Generals hockey team.
