The Cooper Gristmill established it’s history in Chester during the 1760s. The water-powered mill still operates along Black River and is available for tours from April through October.
Black River Trail welcomes hikers who wish to take an all day excursion, but maintains navigable terrain near the trailhead for casual walkers who wish to enjoy the scenic river.
Local farms and gardens, such as Alstede Farms, round the area also offer a variety of recreational activities for all ages. Chester organizes numerous community events throughout the year such as, car shows, a chili cook-off, Easter egg hunts, craft shows and of course the annual Harvest Festival which takes place in October.
