Another nearby option is the 15-room High Point Country Inn, offering breathtaking mountain views and seven serene acres of countryside to explore.

Venture into the great outdoors at High Point State Park, where visitors can swim in the refreshing, spring-fed waters of the 20-acre Lake Marcia, reel in trout and bass from rushing streams, boat along the waters of Sawmill Lake and Steeny Kill Lake, and explore over 50 miles of trails, suitable for horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking. Hikers also can follow along the Appalachian Trail, which follows a rocky ridge through this area. For spectacular views of the surrounding farmlands and dense forests, take Monument Road up to High Point Monument, a 220-foot structure honoring all war veterans.

During the winter months, enjoy some time High Point Cross Country Ski Center, where you can trek through stands of trees, spot wildlife and enjoy alpine vistas of lakes, streams and the nearby Monument.

For a historical attraction, you won’t want to miss the Elias Van Bunschooten Museum, a Dutch Colonial farmhouse from the late 1700s, featuring a barn, wagon house, icehouse and a Greek Revival privy.

Adventure seekers looking for a dose of adrenaline will find just the thing with a tandem skydive with Skydive Sussex, based out of Sussex Airport. Skydiving season is during the warmer months of March through April.

Wine lovers will want to visit the rustic tasting room and 50-acre farm of Ventimiglia Vineyard, where they can sample handcrafted, small-batch wines.
