New Jersey State Korean War Memorial

New Jersey State Korean War Memorial

Park Pl. & Boardwalk
Atlantic City, NJ 08401

  • Overview

Dedicated to ensuring that future generations remember veterans. Open daily.

The memorial features a 12-foot high statue of The Mourning Soldier clutching dog tags. A group of soldiers under fire emerges through a sheet of water just to his left.

On the back wall of the memorial, beneath an eternal flame, is engraved with the names of the 822 New Jerseyans who were killed or who are still missing as a result of the conflict.

The memorial helps to heal the spiritual and psychological wounds suffered by the Korean War veterans, their families and friends.

Part of the healing process is to understand America's involvement in that struggle, what it accomplished and the contribution of our men and women who served in the Korean War.

It is dedicated to ensuring that future generations remember their proud and dedicated service along with the legacy they continued and the freedom they preserved.

Our servicemen and women saved South Korea from a tragic fate. In the long term, comparing conditions today in the North with those of the South, South Korea probably would not have achieved the prosperity and fulfillment it enjoys today under the communist rule of North Korea.

However frustrating and unsatisfactory the Korean War may have been for Americans, South Koreans, with their freedom protected, have a more appreciative view of history.

The memorial is located at Brighton Park at Park Place and the Boardwalk.
