Stokes State Forest

  • Overview

    The breathtaking and panoramic view from Sunrise Mountain along the Appalachian Trail. The view encompasses the pastoral farmland of New Jersey to the east and undeveloped forests and mountain ridges to the west. You may hike up the mountain or take the short drive to the pavilion at the top of the mountain.


    Hikers, campers, fishermen and photographers are attracted to the park's wild setting. Facilities and activities include Sunrise Mountain scenic overlook, Tillman Ravine Natural Area (525 acres), camping, fishing (lakes, ponds and the flatbrook), hunting, picnicking, boating/canoeing and cartop launch. Trails available for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking and the Appalachian Trail. Winter sports include cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing.


    Campsites: 122 tent and trailer sites and group sites with fire rings and picnic tables and furnished cabins. Some camping areas available all year-round.


    Fee: Entrance fees are charged per vehicle from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day.
