  • Overview

The Friends of Monmouth Battlefield are participating in “America’s State Parks First Day Hikes" program sponsored by the state’s Division of Parks & Forestry.

On Wednesday, January 1, 2025, a special tour will be offered by David Martin and John Resto to Perrine Hill to view the main American position there and visit sites associated with Molly Pitcher. This free event will start your New Year off right as your guides show you where the largest full artillery duel of the war raged.

On June 28, 1778, the Americans had a 10-gun artillery battery arranged along the ridge against the Royal Artillery at the Parsonage Farm. This action is where the legend of Molly Pitcher began. Those interested in the tour should meet at the Visitor Center at 11 a.m. then drive in convoy to Perrine Hill on Route 522. Appropriate hiking attire is encouraged. If the weather looks questionable, call the park office for information at 732-462-9616. This is NOT ADA accessible.
