  • Overview

Monmouth County Historical Association's Headquarters houses the main Museum and Library & Archives.

The building was designed by architect J. Hallam Conover and built on land donated by Association member David Vanderveer Perrine. An elegant colonial revival brick structure, its original design was loosely based on Mt. Vernon. Its doors opened on October 6, 1931 to a crowd of 300 visitors. Since then it has continued to welcome patrons to use the library and archives, which contain extensive print and documentary historical and genealogical materials, or to tour the museum galleries, where exhibitions draw from a rich permanent collection and loans.

Visitors can see the stunning Leutze painting "Washington at Monmouth" in the front hall, view the Freehold Gallery where the permanent exhibition "The Battle of Monmouth" is on display, and visit the family-oriented Discovery Room. Open Tues. - Sat. 10 am - 4 pm. Admission $5, Seniors & Children $2.50.
