  • Overview

Bread Lock Park, located in New Village is open to the public. A short section of the Morris Canal tow path and canal prism has been cleared and offers a lovely (albeit short) walk. The lock tenders house foundation give visitors a glimpse into the life of people who worked on the canal. While still buried, the remains of the lock itself speak to the historical significance of the site.

The grounds include a full-size replica of a Morris Canal boat, fitness and walking trails and a picnic area. The Museum at Bread Lock Park includes a scale model of a working canal lock, interactive dioramas and displays of Warren County history including the Morris Canal, Shippen Manor, Oxford Furnace and Lenape Indians. The museum is open second Sundays from 1 - 4 pm.

Also on display is a canoe that was the last boat to make the trip from Phillipsburg to Jersey City on the canal before it was dismantled in the 1920s. There is also a section dedicated to Thomas Edison and his many local enterprises.
