Northlandz in Flemington offers visitors a spectacular indoor world of 100 miniature trains traveling on eight miles of track. It is in the Guinness Book of World's Records for being the world's largest model railroad. With decades of experience, Bruce Zaccagnino began building the trains as a hobby, and then he opened the museum.
The Northlandz display features sculpted 35-foot mountains, more than 250,000 trees and 400 bridges, one of which spans 40 feet. There are thousands of handcrafted buildings and more than 10,000 freight cars. The Raritan River Railway is a 2/3-scale steam-train replica that travels through tunnels and over bridges, giving visitors a relaxing ride through the Northlandz woodlands.
Northlandz also is home to La Peep Dollhouse, a 94-room mansion complete with an indoor swimming pool, a ballroom with a doggie band and a two-story library. Then there's The Doll Museum, an exhibit of more than 200 collectible dolls from around the world. In The Music Hall, there's a 2,000-pipe organ at the centerpiece of a 400-seat theater. The organ is played on weekends and holidays. To round out the Northlandz experience, there's The Art Gallery, which has a cultural array of more than 250 paintings and other works of art.
