• Overview

With over 300 works of sculpture, paintings, illustrations and more, the Skylands Museum of Art is the only fine art museum in Sussex County. In nine rooms over three floors, thoughtfully curated examples of approachable surreal and realistic works explore Fairy Tales, Dragons, Sacred Spaces, the Human Psyche, Faces and Flowers, Baba Yaga (a Ukrainian fairy tale), Eastern & Western Animals and Mythology.

On permanent display are the talents of well-known international 20th and 21st century artists including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Leonor Fini, Brian Froud, Michael Parkes and Ailene Fields. Work by artists who may be new to you include Anne Bachelier, Brian Branch, David Derr and Joseph Christina. The Sculpture Gardens are dotted with original sculpture formed from bronze, cement, glass and stone. Visitors are invited to enjoy the serenity of nature and art harmonizing beautifully as they stroll the paths or relax on a garden bench.

The Skylands Museum of Art is new to the area and a big boost to the regional arts and culture scene. It is a unique museum filled with interesting and conversation-starting work centered on imaginary creatures and characters. Indoors and out, it is truly delightful for viewers of all ages.
