GARDEN STATE TO BE FEATURED ON NATIONAL PBS “SAMANTHA BROWN’S PLACES TO LOVE” BROADCAST THIS WEEK

New Jersey Tourism, Local Partners to be Promoted on 1,400 Airings

Trenton, N.J. – Jan. 13, 2022 – The New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism (NJTT) expects the state’s tourism industry to receive an added boost from a national TV audience when two-time Emmy award-winning PBS travel series “Samantha Brown’s Places to Love” highlights the Garden State in a dedicated episode that debuts this week. Trusted travel expert and television host Samantha Brown filmed the series’ second episode of its fifth season, “Jersey Shore and More,” in June 2021 while touring many of the state’s iconic attractions, historic sites and locally owned businesses.

Aligned with the show’s theme for the season – showcasing the locally-owned businesses, musicians and artists, historical places and enhanced natural spaces that represent the enduring belief that humans have in each other – the destinations’ resilience is prominently on display, told through the voices of those behind its recovery.

“Our great partners across the state not only adapted, but continued to thrive amid the pandemic, providing them a special opportunity with this episode to shine on a national stage and draw in future visitors,” said New Jersey Division of Travel and Tourism Executive Director Jeff Vasser. “The show captures New Jersey’s preeminent roles in the Revolutionary War and music history, as well as the state’s sustainable practices in food sourcing and coastal conservation, which we know families across America will all love and appreciate.”

Brown’s extraordinary understanding of the human spirit and the quest for discovery play an important part in the destinations highlighted throughout the show. In Cape May County, once a hub for the Underground Railroad, Brown explores the recently opened Harriet Tubman Museum, and she also uncovers groundbreaking research at The Wetlands Institute.

The exciting journey through the Garden State also follows Brown to stops at Beach Plum Farms, Source Farmhouse Brewery in Colts Neck, Monmouth Battlefield State Park, The Stone Pony, and Transparent Clinch Gallery in Asbury Park—among others.

New Jersey residents can tune in via multiple ways and are encouraged to check local listings for exact date and times. Philadelphia PBS affiliate WHYY-TV will air the episode on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 10:30 a.m., while New York PBS affiliate WLIW will air it on Sunday, Jan. 23, at 11:30 a.m.
