The Township of Winslow was established 1845, although early businesses such as The Blue Anchor Tavern and a sawmill along the Egg Harbor River date back to the 1700s. The landscape is interspersed with wide-open pastures and densely forested areas, lending a rural, small-town feel to this area.
Get outdoors and take in the wooded setting with a round of golf at Pinelands Golf Course. Built on gently rolling terrain, this somewhat narrow, 18-hole course features small to medium size greens, offering a challenge to players of all levels.
Also located among the beautiful pine tree forests is Sharrott Winery, a family owned vineyard and winery that uses sustainable growing practices. Tour the grounds, and stop into the tasting room to sample a wide range of wine varietals, while noshing on a selection of cheeses.
For visitors interested in fishing, hunting or bird watching in Winslow, the Winslow Fish and Wildlife Management Area is a must-visit destination. With over 7,600 acres of grassy fields, swamp areas, sandy roads and upland forest, this diverse ecosystem is home to white tailed deer, gray foxes, coyotes, screech owls, wild turkey and much more. While you’re here, make sure to hike to the legendary “blue hole” pond, which can be found along a trail near the entrance of the shotgun range on Piney Hollow Road.
